Stolen Lips

Today I had one of those days when I ask myself why I never finish my drawings. Well, as usual I tried to actually finish one of my old sketches (that would be this one). As usual I found it to be utter and complete torture. Of course I decided to fix up Link's face and of course I ended up having to completely erase and redraw both of their faces (adding unnecessary hours). Even sadder is that it never came out as good as the first time. The background was even worse. It looks sloppy but I can reveal that this is the chaos left after hours of effort... when it looked as horrible as it does now I gave up.

Then, as if that was not enough, the scanner ruined it even more and I could not find any way to add a bit more contrast and at the same time make it look smoother. I played around a bit in Photoshop (made it blue and added some highlights).

Siiiiiigh, had enough of my whining? Okay, onto commenting what the drawing depicts.

This is Zelda and Dark Link from "The Adventure of Link". I am by no means a timeline enthusiast, which is why I came up with this scene with the thought that Ocarina of Time would follow after (please, no explanations about the Triforce being in the Sacred Realm or things like that).

I have been speculating a bit about in what way Link's shadow should be evil. Would the good and the bad be mirrored? Would love become hate and vice versa? Or would it be something as simple as listening more to the tiny red guy on the left shoulder instead of the white one on the right? A question of priorities so to speak.

Because - forgetting about Megaton Hammer tactics and the likes - that would make the difference between victory and defeat in a battle against oneself. If "the greater good" is not, deep down, as much worth to oneself as all of one's own selfish desires, then one will not be able to go that extra mile.

There is more to say, but let's leave it at that. What I came up with (only to realize later that it did not make much sense) was that Link's most selfish desire would be to have Zelda, and Dark Link would be standing in the way of his own wishes because Zelda would only wake up if the Triforce was taken.

Dark Link was defeated and reduced to something barely worth calling an existence. He drifted through time - knowing Zelda was since long dead - until he regained his Hylian form when he, all of a sudden, stood eye to eye with the legendary hero once again. But that could not be? But that was how it was, because the hero had been reborn, and through the memories of his other self Dark Link could see his beloved princess. Different, but surely it was her face.

Mmm, enough with the lame fanfiction ideas.
